Overall we had a great day! Drama was kept to a minimum NO ONE got below yellow, and we learned all types of things!
I made several home visits yesterday. Sometimes, this just helps me address certain behaviors with you! Please don't be offended. I just like the kids to know I care enough to show up after school.
Writing is in full blast. Language is getting more colorful than ever. Reading is full of similes and metaphors. Math is bogged down with division. Lastly, Science is preparation for a big test!
That's right we have our first science test FRIDAY!
The kids have their science notebooks. I will send home the study guide tomorrow for the exact test! Be on the look out! It's not very hard AT all!
DOL and DOM quizes are now on Friday. If you are looking at language grades slipping, it is because of DOL test! The kids are not studying!
Homework: Write a sentence with each spelling word, must be eight words long.

Drama filled Tuesday
Hello All!
Our class has proved to not be able to let drama out of the classroom. This is RIDICULOUS! I had to leave for a meeting for the last forty-five minutes of the day and a few girls decided to take advantage of the fill in sub and spray body spray and run the classroom. Therefore, if your child comes home with a mark sheet tomorrow. You know something has happened.
Writing is going full force and the kids are doing amazing! I can feel the amazing writing test scores coming through! Greatness!
Science- Is very hard, but have your child stick with it. I will send out a study guide tomorrow for review of test for Monday.
Math: We are on division. However, please make sure your child is studying their facts!
Reading: Figurative Language- this is simile, metaphor, hyperbole, idiom, personification.
Homework for tonight: Write spelling words in bubble letters.
Science workbook pg. 244-246? I think. They need to complete this. Half the class didn't turn in their inherited traits graphs. If they don't turn it tomorrow THIS WILL BE A ZERO! That will kill their grade! Please help me out!

Monday Monday!
Hello all! I had a great report from the substitute from Friday! Only three kids names were on the list. Therefore, I just take that and assign them a mark in the computer as per our school discipline system.
We are still moving. Therefore, today is going to be very quick!
School Fundraiser- If kids turn in their packet tomorrow with seven people's addresses then they receive a special treat and a coupon! WOO HOO for coupons! More importantly our house gets points! I told the kids to ask you for seven friends/family members and just look up their addresses in the phonebook.
Homework tonight:
Spelling words five times each.
Science: Inherited traits graph due!!! (They've had this for class work for over a week! Therefore no excuses!) Also, workbook pages 238-240 due completed.

Tomorrow is the real test!
Tomorrow I will be out. Therefore, it will be our first real test! Hopefully, everything will go great! I have high hopes.
We have moved forward with division today! If your child is getting down in the dumps please help me lift them up! They have all come so far already! Do not let them get discouraged! I promise they will get it soon!
Tomorrow is our spelling test. Our bonus words are............... inherited and chromosome. I thought this fit well with our science standards right now!
Tonights homework:
Spelling: Study and write words. Each consonant is blue and the vowels are red. For example, poem would be poem.
Science: Read pages 230-231 in workbook.
Math: Color their worksheet from class.

Wonderful Wednesday
Today was amazing! My favorite quote was, "Mrs. White I can finally divide!" This is why I love my job! I had two girls have lightbulb moments in division today. Do you know how amazing this is?! If your child isn't there yet, do not lose hope. We will get there soon! Five kids are dividing with base ten blocks and we are moving them to paper and the old way SLLLOOOOOWWWWLLLLY!
Once again, I'm sorry I'm late. However, I do have two rooms of my house packed up and ready to move! Now, on to the closets!
Science.... We have moved to science for the next three to four weeks. The kids seem to really enjoy it, which is great!You will notice they might have homework in their workbook. This is just reading. This helps them prepare for what they will hear from me the next day!

Is it really only Tuesday?
This week seems to be dragging along doesn't it?! I am so sorry I am late. However, as I told the kids today my husband and I are moving this weekend. Therefore, we are living in a big giant mess! We are trying very hard to get it done quickly and painlessly. IS there any easy way to move anyway? I think not.
Today we had an amazing day in regards to accomplishing great things! We are making data graphs using our science assignment last week on inherited traits! Coolness all the way! We are going to sail through our next math unit on graphing!
Our class nominated number four to be our house representative! This was a great honor. We narrowed it down to two kids, number one and four. Either child would represent our class well so I let the kids vote! Number four one but it was a very close race!

Read pgs 228-229 in science workbook.
Write spelling words 2x backwards. Yes, backwards!
Bring Monday folder back SIGNED.

Notice something I forgot?
I forgot Monday Folders! I am so sorry! It was a crazy hectic end of the day with my mind focusing on division! That's right, division! I will send them home tomorrow! Please forgive me!
Really quick, because I am grading some more papers to put into Iparent. We have moved onto science and are learning about inherited traits. You will notice that they will have reading homework in science all week.
I have also stopped spelling worksheets. We will do these in class. Instead, they will have to complete different things with their spelling words. Students were just not all completing their spelling homework and it SEVERELY damages their grade! Therefore, we are going to try a different approach.
I let the kids know about alot of their grades this a.m. because a significant amount of them have c's or are failing in multiple areas. If you check IParent, then you would already know.
Homework tonight:

Science: Read pgs 226-227 in science workbook!
Read thirty minutes!

I know the kids who visit today only want the extra credit........
Welllll.......... I did promise a little bit of extra credit on the social studies test. I'm hoping you have your social studies notebook........ What was Clara Barton's nickname? (Hint.... Google it if you don't have your notebook! I just did and it came RIGHT up! )
Today was alot better! Want to know why? I CAN WALK A LITTLE! Actually alot! It's amazing how much better our kids behave when they know I can walk? I don't get it? But it was great!
In reading we are moving full force in our reading groups! Two groups have even finished their first books! They took ar test on these and made and ALL passed! WOO HOO for this! Right now we are studying about the story elements.....(character, setting, conflict, resolution). Ask your student to identify these with you when they are reading each night! I sure hope they are reading at least!
Math is going much better! This class is SO much farther ahead that previous classes I've had. ALL students are multiplying... Some in different ways. But, what does it matter if we are on the same page!
Tomorrow is a DOL and DOM quiz! I have noticed that a lot of students aren't studying!

Wordless Wednesday
Just kidding. Sorry I am so late today, I've been grading papers and looking at the students' fact fluency scores. My goal is to get flash cards made next week. So please please please be looking for this.
Today was filled with drama. I am at the end of my rope with this parents. I'm sorry. Your child will get a mark in the computer for even suggesting drama in my classroom. Its is past the point of interfering with your child's education. Therefore, I have to be harsh about it.
Reading grades! I graded your child on fluency already this week. Next grade will be their comprehension! NOT ONE CHILD FAILED THEIR FLUENCY test! WOOO HOOO! Huge accomplishments!

Ahhhhh the long weekend!
I hope you all got nice and rested over the holiday weekend! I was sooo lazy. But, enjoyed every minute of it!
A few things......
Talking/Drama: HUGE ISSUE STILL. This makes me sad. It is taking away from learning time. I have started to skip the behavior chart and automatically put a mark in the computer. THESE MARKS WILL ADD UP!
Gum: This is also an automatic mark in the computer. It sounds harsh. But, I've already cleaned gum off my shoe TWICE. NOT acceptable.
Marks in the computer: If you weren't at Charles Spencer last year, this is the school wide discipline plan. Every three marks, a child receives a different level of discipline. If you would like more information, please email me and we will set up a meeting.
THIS WEEK:
WE HAVE A HUGE SOCIAL STUDIES TEST OVER THE CIVIL WAR! Your child has the study guide/ACTUAL TEST to fill out and study tonight. Please make sure they study.
We start science. Look for a project type information sheet this week.
NO spelling.
Homework tonight:
Homophone sheet/activity. We have an assessment over this Wednesday. Please make sure your child takes the time to actually go over it.

It's almost friday and OPENING DAY for the DAWGS!
Hello? Could there be any better news =)?
I'm late again today! We literally just walked in the door and my foot is the most swollen its been in a week! It's awful!
We are waist deep in multiplication! For some, its a breeze. However, for a lot of us we are struggling. BUT! As I told the kids, not one kid left my classroom last year not being able to multiply. So, It might take us a while, but we will get it!
Tomorrow we have a spelling test! HINT HINT....... Bonus words are: Assassination and Sherman (for Sherman's March to the Sea).
Social studies is going so well! Your kids seem thrilled to learn about their history! We have so many interesting social studies topics in fifth grade!

Practice multiplication
It is PIZZA night! I know PAPA JOHNS is somewhat expensive, but I sent home coupons. The winning class for the year gets a BRAND NEW ACTIVSLATE. This is that cooooool tool that allowed me to work our Activboard from ANYWHERE in the room!!!!! MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM ITS FOR MRS. WHITES CLASS!!!!!!!!!
