I know I know I'm soooooo sorry!
Do you know the expression bare pantry? Well. Mine took that to a new level. NO worries though! I even picked up the ingredients for our teacakes I hope we get to have next week =). We read the book Saturdays and Teacakes last week. Unfortunately, no one in our class had eaten a teacake and I had not made them by myself! So, I'm going to use this opportunity to try out a new recipe! It should be fun! Now if we can alllllllll stay above green we will enjoy in a little snack next week!
Today was such an amazing day! Our kids are getting their creative juices flowing. Through our writing conferences and writing lesson each day, I learn SO much about your kids! The kids seemed to enjoy my latest story and I can't wait to hear there first! We should start these next week!
In math we are starting to do alot of big bad multiplication! We are learning new ways and a few old ways. Do not fear. Your child will use whatever way they like and can do best! I just like to show them multiple options! Last year I had students even create their OWN way!
Our class got a nod from the Assistant Principal about our CCC usage! WOOO HOOO for us! We are quickly moving out of IPM (the area that just places them on their current level).
Homework:
Spelling sheet and study words.
Read thirty minutes.
Study multiplication facts!
If you haven't tried it out, go to www.spellingcity.com! It is SO COOL! It plays games with your children's spelling words! SO Amazing!
Till tomorrow!

Tuesday Tuesday!
Today was a much better day! So, YAY for better days! Today every single child was able to get on Math and Reading CCC! MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT! Each child in our class also received small group instruction in math and reading! This is huge and benefits your child TREMENDOUSLY!
Some parents have received a letter in the mail regarding a meeting about their child's progress. I urge those to attend. This is a great way to be involved in your child's education.
IF you have not received a letter and would like to set up a meeting, just send me an email and I'd be happy to set something up!
Dresscode: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check your child's outfit BEFORE you walk outside. I know off the shoulder tops are very in right now. I even sport them on the weekend. However, they are not in the dresscode. Also, holes in the jeans or the patched denim. A great rule of thumb is that if there is a question about it, its probably not alright. This is mostly addressing the ladies in our class.
Homework for tonight: Spelling sheet and read thirty minutes. DOM and DOL quiz is also tomorrow.
I found a great website www.spellingcity.com it calls out the spelling word for your student! Please take advantage of this great tool!
Have a great night!

Monday Monday!
And boy was it ever a MONDAY!
The morning started off great, we were finally able to go and check out books from the school library! Now, there is NO excuse for your student to not be reading each night! Start out with at least fifteen minutes a night. We were also able to start guided reading groups, or small group reading clubs, today. This just means that your child will meet with me twice a week in a small, small group to learn more reading strategies.
Monday folders went out today. If you have a question regarding their grades, please send me an email or call for an appointment time.
We had some more issues today with talking/girl drama. WE DO NOT HAVE TIME FOR THIS. Please, talk to your student and help me keep this out of the classroom.
A parent asked if I could go over what we are studying that week, in the chance that their child is just not getting it. I thought this was a FABULOUS idea!
Math: Place Value, decimals, addition, subtraction and multiplication of decimals. Just google multiplying decimals or place value to review these skills. It also can come up with some great games they could play!
Language/Word Study: Subject/ Predicate Synonyms/Antonyms
Social Studies: Civil War
Science: Inherited Traits/ Acquired traits
Reading: Story elements
I hope this will help you come up with some afterschool help activities for your student!
Homework: Pg. 9 in social studies workbook
Multiplication facts STUDY!
Spelling words three times each.

Talkative Thursday
Clips, Clips, Clips were on the move today! I knew we had a talkative group, but they have now hit the extreme button. It is ridiculous. I can almost guarantee your child more than likely got their clip moved down. How do I know it is to the extreme level, their math test scores!
Math scores were incredibly sad. I reviewed the test almost EXACTLY the same problems five minutes before the test! We are going to go over them tomorrow and work on a retest to help their grades. I had two students do outstanding! So, a shoutout is in order to number 6 and number 4!
Before I move on, if you keep up with Iparent, these grades will be added all throughout the afternoon. I have a MOUNTAIN. =)
Homework: Kids are not doing their homework. I give them about fifteen minutes to work on this every day. Yet, they are still not finishing it! I do not understand! It only takes about fifteen minutes to finish the written homework. This will pull their grade down significantly.
TOnights Homework: Spelling sheet and study spelling words
Social Studies vocabulary test tomorrow!
I hope everyone has a nice afternoon. Please, please, please help me out with all of this talking!

Terrific Tuesday!
Hello To all!
We have had a great day! The kids are slowly getting use to the wheelchair and we are not letting it interrupt our learning! Which is AWESOME!
Today we got to know a lot more about Harriet Tubman and Abraham Lincoln through some great video clips.
PICTURE DAY IS THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not forget to brush your hair =).
Today is going to be short and sweet, I've got to put this foot up. I am about to put in our second social studies grades. I will have to say they disappoint me greatly! The scores are awful! THe sheet was a homework sheet they had started on in class. It was open book and an EASY 100! However, I had about half the class fail it! They have a similar situation going on tonight! Please make sure they take their time!
Tonight's Homework:
Spelling sheet and study.
Finish social studies workbook pg. 8 and study vocabulary.
Language Worksheet over the types of sentences.
DOL and DOM quiz TOMORROW!
That's all for tonight! Thank you so much for stopping by!

OMG Mrs. White is in a Wheelchair!
It's true! I hate to tell you your child is telling the truth, but they are! The kids were great for the most part taking care of me and making sure teaching was easier for me in my handicapped state.
I told one child, "Hey, you would make a great nurse!" Guess what? I really meant it! They have been amazing!
Unfortunately, I had ANOTHER case of bullying in my classroom. This was the LAST straw. I have forewarned everyone I do NOT tolerate bullying. If this is happening to your child, and they have mentioned it to you and you don't think I'm aware SHOOT ME AN EMAIL or CALL. I need to know!
TONIGHT IS MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT! Your child will earn three free homework passes AND a five point extra credit to the choice of their choice. I also am going to throw in another free pass that is a SURPRISE! This is a great time for us to really get to know one another and for you to ask me questions about anything that might have already come up! I hope to see you ALL there.
Homework:
Turn in Monday Folder SIGNED.
Spelling words 3x each and study.
Social Studies Vocabulary Test. NEW WORDS. Most kids did not pass this past week, I kindly gave them a retest. However, I will NOT be doing this again.
Math test Wednesday: They have a math journal they could bring home to study with.
DOL and DOM quiz Wednesday.
I hope to see you all tonight!

Ahhhhh Friday!
I am exhausted! School is back in full force!
Grades are in for the vocabulary test and for the DOL and DOM quizzes for the week. I might get to spelling tonight, but I doubt it! I will definitely have them up by tomorrow! By up, I mean in IParent!
Today we had TWO very special visitors, our Assistant Principal and the Librarian, came to watch us use our technology!
I am attaching an awesome picture that we took during our math quiz this afternoon! Learning seems so much more fun when you can text in the answer! Don't you think?!

It's almost TEST time!
That's right! We have TWO test tomorrow! Has your child studied? I hope so! The spelling test and vocabulary test are both quite difficult! I hope they have studied all week. We played a friendly game of ZAP today to review our spelling words. I was soooooooo sad at how quickly kids were getting out! Maybe they just want to surprise me tomorrow!
Our two bonus spelling words are Abolitionists and Lincoln
OMG I FORGOT TO REMIND THE KIDS! PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD TO BRING IN PICTURES OR OLD MAGAZINES TOMORROW TO USE TO DECORATE THEIR WRITER'S NOTEBOOKS!!!!!
PICTURE DAY is August 25! * Before I forget to tell you!
Scholastic book order! You can go online to order at the website: www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. This will take you to the site! You will need to create an account. Our code that you will need to put in is GMMJ7. You can pay online with credit card/atm card and I never even have to touch the money! =).
I've had another issue with dress code for our ladies! Please make sure your child's jeans have NO holes and NO tears. They cannot have any patches either! Also, no sleeveless tops.
Another issue is make up, or lipgloss. We are not at school to attract boys, we are there to learn. Please help me enforce this policy moms and dads!
I have put in the grades for DOM and DOL quizzes for the week. It was very clear who had studied. I hope we will have better grades next week!

Halfway there!
It's halfway till friday!
Hope everyones having a great day! I mentioned yesterday about our fact fluency. This is just a program our school district does to help make sure all students know their facts! Addition we rocked the house! Unfortunately, our multiplication needs some major work! Therefore, I'm going to strike a deal! I am not going to send home math homework for the rest of August so that the kids can use that twenty minutes to study their multiplication and division facts. When we move into long division this will make their lives SO much easier! Please help me out and make sure they are going over these multiplication facts EACH night!
DOM and DOL quizes..... I graded the DOM while they completed the DOL. I did not have anything lower than a 60 and had 3 100's! 3 100's is great! However, this is the exact thing we do each week. Therefore, we should definitely have more A's! These are in IParent if you would like to check your child's grade. DOL will be up no later than tomorrow!
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE SIGNING YOUR CHILDS HOMEWORK AGENDA AND BEHAVIOR CHART EACH NIGHT!
Homework:
Spelling skill sheet and study spelling words.
Read 30 minutes.
Study Social Studies Vocabulary
PARENTS! They need to bring in some pictures or other artifacts to decorate their writers notebooks. Just one or two pictures or an old magazine will suffice!
Hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday!

Smooth Sailing!
Good Afternoon!
Things are seeming to go ALOT smoother! This helps tremendously! It means we can get right to the learning. I had a parent stop by today and ask about their child not writing down the DOL and DOM info. During the review, I tell them OOK GUYS IF I WERE GOING TO TAKE A TEST ON THIS THIS WEEK I WOULD WRITE......... out beside my answer so I knew what I was talking about! I know it moves fast, however they have about ten minutes to do it then the review takes about ten minutes. Thats a gooooooood twenty minutes!
EYE CHECK! Parents I have had SEVEN children complain about not being able to see! Please ask your child and see if you need to set up an eye appointment!
HOMEWORK:
Social Studies workbook Pg. 5
Spelling Sheet ONLY THE FRONT! Study Spelling.
Study for Vocab test, and DOL and DOM quiz.
We started fact fluency today! This is just to make sure your child knows all of their facts! I had eight children get 100 % on their fact fluency! The children who got 100 % in addition were: 6, 10, 4, 7, 11, 17, 14! See your child to decode the numbers!
PLEASE BE REVIEWING THESE FACTS EACH NIGHT IF THEY ARENT AT 100%!
Thank you so much for all of your help!

Monday Monday!
Good Afternoon!
I am sorry I'm a little behind today! However, it has just been one of those days! I'm going to list a few important things!
Binders: ALLL STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE A BINDER! If you cannot afford one for economic reasons I need to know! I will start moving kids clips tomorrow for this offense! IT seems harsh, but this is a huge part of our day! If I need to go beg for money for binders to get them for your child!
Homework/Binders/ Behavior: We have started our binder regiment for the year. You will notice that your child has a planner and behavior sheet behind their first divider. (If they have dividers.) BOTH sheets need to be signed EVERY Night! If you have a comment about why your child is on a certain level, ask them. I can promise you they can tell you! If they can't, then shoot me an email! I'd be happy to answer.
Dress Code: Parents please, please, please make sure your child is in dress code. One child has been out of dress code two out of the four days of school. IBoth cases have been simple infractions that could be solved really quick!
Homework for tonight: Spelling words three times each, and study for vocabulary test.
Upcoming dates: Picture day- August 25, Meet the Teacher Night- August 22, Labor Day- September 5
We had our first lunch visitor today! It was so nice! Please know you are welcome to come and eat lunch with your child if your schedule permits!

FINALLY FRIDAY!
AHHHHHH it feeels so good to say finally Frriiiiiday!
I know the kids are just as excited that we have a few days off! If you have not noticed by now, I did not send the rest of our information packets home today. Each week, we will have Monday folders. Therefore, I did not want to send home Monday Folders on Friday and confusing the kids. Am I making any sense?
I had a lot of excited kids this morning in response to our bonus giveaway yesterday! I had SEVEN kids earn bonus points! WOO HOO for those! Parents, these vocabulary tests are so hard for our new fifth graders to grasp! Please, please, please make sure they are studying these. I had them pick out four words Slave State, Free State, Civil War and Secede. These are the four words I suggested they try and memorize by Monday. I can almost guarantee that half of my class will wait and end up failing this test. I REALLY do not want to have their first social studies grade to be a failing grade, please prove me wrong!
I have found a room mom! Thank you so much Mrs. Johnson!
Remember we will have a DOL and DOM test on Wednesday as well! I watched every child put these in their book bag. Therefore, there is no excuse for them not to at least look at them.
I NEED ALL INFORMATION SHEETS BACK BY MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!! If I do not have these back, your child will have to sit on the wall during recess :(. This is no good, but we have to have them back! If you need an extra copy just let me know!
Behavior clips were moved in full force today! You will be getting this info on Monday. I even had two kids reach outstanding behavior and will get to punch their all star card! Congrats number eight and seventeen! Ask your child their number!
Math place value PRE test scores were AMAZING! This pre test just lets me know where your children are at! I had ninety five percent make at least a ninety! WOOOOAH!
Have a great weekend!

YAY for amazing days!
Hello to ALL!
Thank you so much for your interest in our class website! I am AMAZED at the level of interest! The kids are loving it as well! I love the fact that they are seeing another way to use this thing we call technology!
Today we jumped in head first! We worked in EVERY single subject today! WOO HOO for small accomplishments! They were all given social studies vocabulary words. We will have a test over half of these next FRIDAY!
The first test will be over:
Slave State abolitionists
Free State debate
Missouri Compromise treason
Tariff secede
Civil war
**********************************************************I did not give the kids this info! So if they remember to separate these and can tell me something about two of these words I will give them 5 Bonus points on their test next Friday! ********************************************************
Each week we will have a Daily oral language quiz and a Daily oral math quiz. IT WILL BE OTHE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS WE DO IN CLASS!!!!!!!! Hint: Make sure you tell your child to bring their DOL and DOM composition books home on Monday and Tuesday to study. THE TEST FOR BOTH OF THESE WILL BE EVERY WEDNESDAY!!!!!! These are quick and easy 100’s!
Behavior: Yesterday, I had one major issue and a couple of minor issues. Today we addressed the major issue. It was bullying/picking on a student. Parents, please talk to your children! I’m begging you! I will not tolerate either of these! I think we made a huge stride in the right direction today. The talking was held to a very good minimum today!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remember to send in the information forms!!!!!!
I am still looking for a room mother. I have one mom who could do it if someone could help her? Please let me know! It is really not much responsibility! So, please send a note or email me at my school or you can leave a comment on here!
I am leaving you with a picture from today =) As I said we jived much better today!

The First day Jitters, Minus the Jitters =)
Good Afternoon from 5th grade!
Today was super busy! We got to know each other well through a snowball fight! Then, we did a self portrait. Unfortunately, we had to get all of our rules and procedures down! That took almost all day!
We have a group of talkers! Parents please remind all of our students that we have to get all of this talking out of the way so we can get to the learning! We have to get the ball rolling TOMORROW.
I mentioned homework. However, the kids did a lot today and we got a little overwhelmed. Do not look for homework until next week.
I sent home TONS of information that needs to be looked at and signed, etc. Please get this back to us the sooner the better!
Until tomorrow,
Mrs. White

Open House!
Welcome Parents!
It was so wonderful to meet each and every one of you who came out tonight! I also look forward to meeting those of you that could not make it on this rainy night! Listening to previous teachers, and other people in the building, I know that we have an awesome group of kids!
I don't know if any of you noticed my sign hanging outside the classroom. The bottom line states, " We are Family." This short phrase is the motto for our classroom environment. If we all keep this in mind, then you will be amazed at the difference it has in the positive outcome of our school year. My class from last year worked so hard to achieve this.
In the next few days I will be sending home tons of information. Most of this will go home on Friday. Please look over it with your child. In these files, you will find information on our behavior policies, class schedule, and other important information.
I am also looking for a mom that could possibly take over the role as "room mother." Please let me know if you could swing the time and responsibility.
A little info about Mrs. White:
I was born and raised in Tifton. I left for four years to attend college in Macon. I quickly returned home to my MAMA! Last year, I got married to my husband Rob. Rob, is in nursing school, and frequently subs in our building. A lot of the students mentioned already knowing him! We have no children! However, we have a ton of fur babies! We have three dogs and three cats! I am the oldest of three, and my mom is a teacher at J.T. Reddick. This teaching gene is very strong! In my spare time, I work on homework (I'm currently working on my master's in Education), work in my garden, and go shopping with my mama! My family and I are HUGE Georgia Bulldog fans! If you are Gator lovers, please, please don't tell me =). The only way I can get over summer being over is knowing I can head to Athens and watch my dogs play!
I look forward to getting to know all of you! Please don't hesitate to call me if you need me!
